Ridgeway Rise: Fostering independence through clearer vision
Nestled amidst the serene corners of Swindon, Ridgeway Rise Care Home stands as a beacon of comfort, care, and enrichment, offering its residents an opportunity to live life to the fullest. With a mission shared by it’s dedication staff, nurses and carers matching the commitment of OutsideClinic – to help people within care homes live an enriched and independent life. This shared vision extends to the belief in the profound impact of better vision in enhancing independence and enabling people, especially care home residents to engage in activities that enrich their lives.
Currently, there are 400,000 elderly individuals living in care homes in the UK and like many residents of care homes like Ridgeway Rise, compromised vision can often be a barrier to independence. The simple act of seeing clearly can be the key to regaining autonomy. With clearer vision, residents can confidently navigate their surroundings, read books, enjoy hobbies and participate in social activities.
Meeting wonderful people
It was an unforgettable day when the team at Ridgeway Rise opened their doors and graciously allowed us to step into their home. We had the privilege of meeting some of the incredible care home residents, including the lovely Jackie and her daughter Lesley, as well as the charming Gordon. Their stories and interaction underscored the profound impact that a caring environment can have on residents’ lives.
Jackie, a resident living with dementia, found pure joy in being part of our filming activities. The day transported her back to a time when she dabbled in acting, and her enthusiasm was infectious. Our optometrist Vishal Khurana played a crucial role in making her feel comfortable throughout the filming process and it was wonderful when dispensing optician Emma found the perfect set of glasses for her.
Gordon, on the other hand, proved to be a cheeky and endearing character. While our filming temporarily interrupted his television time, it was heartening to see him in his own room, surrounded by cherished items and memories from his past, including cherished family photos. It was a day filled with laughter, storytelling, and shared moments that we will all remember.
Capturing the beautiful moments
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ridgeway Rise, Jackie, Gordon, and all the residents for welcoming us into their lives and disrupting their everyday routines for a bit of filming madness. Bella Balaci, the General Manager at the care home, was a wonderful host, and we are grateful to her and the entire team for allowing us to capture these beautiful moments in their home.
These interactions exemplify the compassionate and caring environment that Ridgeway Rise Care Home fosters, enriching the lies of its residents every day. The stories of Jackie, Gordon, and others remind us of the importance of creating spaces where residents can truly thrive and find moments of joy, regardless of their unique challenges.
