A Partner’s Journey: From employee to director
How OutsideClinic’s JVP model empowers optometrists to thrive
Owning a Joint Venture Partnership (JVP) with OutsideClinic is now simpler and more accessible than ever. With no need for recruiting, zero upfront costs and full support functions from day one, OutsideClinic has developed a JVP model where optometrists can focus on what they love – delivering exceptional eye care.
Since their JVP model launch in September 2022, OutsideClinic will soon boast 17 successful partners across the UK and continues to expand. We spotlight Jennifer Atyeo, a partner in Somerset, who transitioned from an employed optometrist to a business owner in June 2023. We hear more about her inspiring journey.
Embracing change
Before embracing the domiciliary path, Jennifer worked for a high-street multiple. Although she found it enjoyable her ambition was always to focus her career on domiciliary optometry, a sector she finds both interesting and rewarding.
Transitioning to a JVP Director has solidified Jennifer’s commitment to domiciliary optometry for the long haul. “It’s made my work-life easier, and as a mum of three, having more control of my work schedule is invaluable.”
Dan Edwards, our Director of Business Growth, adds, “Our JVP model is tailored for optometrists who are contemplating their next career step and are looking for a business opportunity that stands for its ease and support. Comparted to other models that require you to navigate the complexities of setting up and running a practice, OutsideClinic offers a streamlined path to success.”
From decision to directorship: The path to partnership
Jennifer’s transition to a JVP was driven by the seamless support and established systems at OutsideClinic. The operational support from teams in Swindon and Glasgow allows her to concentrate fully on providing excellent patient care without the overheads of managing a practice. “The systems are the same for a JVP as for an employed optometrist, so you have the support of scheduling, fleet, professional services, dispensing, and other teams enabling you to concentrate on providing great patient care,” she explains.
Like any career change, it can be daunting but for Jennifer the decision-making process was marked by transparency and support. “Once I registered my interest, a meeting was arranged, the JVP model was explained in detail with comprehensive financial projections and a clear contract, ensuring I had all the information needed to make an informed decision,” she recounts.
The transition from employee to partner was smooth and challenge-free for Jennifer. Supported by regular meetings, a supportive community of fellow partners, and continual professional development opportunities at OutsideClinic, she has found an ideal balance between professional growth and personal life.
As a director, Jennifer effectively uses various marketing strategies to build her patient base, from direct mail postcards to engaging with community managers during visits. “Word of mouth is the most satisfying way to build your patient base and it’s a great feeling when a happy patient asks for some cards to give their friends,” shared Jennifer.
Looking ahead, Jennifer is excited about the future. “As a Director, I offer my patients the continuity of seeing the same clinician every year and I look forward to offering them the best possible care, with great customer services provided by OutsideClinic,” she states confidently.
For those considering a transition to a JVP, Jennifer advises, “Arrange a meeting, have a chat with an existing partner. I have no regrets about making the transition myself.”
