Grandmother sees grandchild clearly after home eye-test
2 minutes
Helen Stewart had just celebrated becoming a grandmother, a moment she had long been looking forward to. But instead of feeling the pure joy she had imagined, she was left saddened that she couldn’t see her newborn granddaughter’s smile clearly.
A search for accessible eye care
In her 40s, Helen had noticed her eyesight had significantly deteriorated over the past year. Even simple pleasures, like watching her favourite TV shows, had become a struggle. But due to an existing medical condition, she was unable to visit her local high street optician. Unsure of what to do next, Helen was unsure what to do next.
Helen's mother, Jean Stewart, became more and more concerned. She wanted to find a solution that would allow Helen to regain her vision. That’s when they discovered our home eye care service – offering a much-needed solution for those, like Helen, who are unable to attend appointments in person.
A thorough eye test in the comfort of your home
Initially worried about how an at-home eye examination would compare to a visit to their usual opticians, they needn't be. Our optician visited Helen's home, and as she was setting up her equipment it was clear to Helen and Jean that the eye test would be similar to what she'd had before, just with smaller portable equipment. She even took photographs of the back of the eyes and had a wide range of glasses for Helen to try on.
Helen's story is just one example of how our home eye and hearing care service can make a difference. For those, like Helen, who are unable to visit an optician due to health or mobility issues, an at-home service can provide the same high-quality care and, most importantly, helps people reconnect with the moments that matter most.
