At OutsideClinic, we're always looking for ways to make life easier for our team. We're excited by our latest innovation - the new lightweight kit bag, designed for our optometrists to make their day-to-day work more comfortable and efficient.
Our optometrists spend their days on the move, providing exceptional eye care to patients in their own homes. We understand that carrying equipment from appointment to appointment can be physically demanding, which is why we have developed a lighter, more ergonomic kit bag. This new bag will help ease the physical strain of carrying essential diagnostic tools and improve overall mobility, making each home visit smoother and more manageable.
The innovation was designed by OutsideClinic colleagues, Southwest Regional Manager Dan Young and Senior Designer Jon Richards, to improve the daily experience for optometrists. The new design features pre-cut slots for each piece of equipment, reducing the risk of damage during transit and making it easier to see if something has been left behind. Additionally, it incorporates OutsideClinic's branding, helping to promote our services during visits.
Designed with our optometrists in mind
The development process involved several prototypes and an investment of £40,000, culminating in a final design that significantly improves on weight, durability, and practicality.
The new kit has now been rolled out to all our optometrists. Dan Young, OutsideClinic's Head of Process Improvement commented:
Key features of the kit bag
-
Lightweight design
The new bag weighs just 6.4 kg, compared to the prior weight of over 10 kg.
-
Pre-cut slots for equipment
Custom slots for each piece of equipment help reduce the risk of damage and make it easy to see if anything has been left behind.
-
Durable materials
Made from high-quality materials that are both sturdy and practical, the bag is built to withstand the demands of daily use.
-
Comfortable straps
Equipped with padded straps for improved comfort, making it easier to carry for longer periods without discomfort.
This new kit bag is just one of the ways we're committed to improving the working conditions of our optometrists. As Dan Young highlighted, the new bag is aimed at making our team's day-to-day activities easier and more efficient. We know that the work our team does is invaluable, and we want to ensure they have the tools and support needed to perform at their best. By investing in better equipment, we're creating a positive work environment that prioritises the health and well-being of our colleagues.
