Tools, tech & support - helping you deliver outstanding care
We believe delivering brilliant domiciliary eye care isn't just about clinical skill - it's about equipping you with the very best tools and technology, designed specifically for home testing, and surrounding you with a dedicated support network so you're never working alone.
Here's how the right equipment and the right people help our optometrists deliver excellent care, every single day.
The kit that powers every visit
Every OutsideClinic optometrist carries a purpose-built kit bag, carefully designed with input from our clinicians to be lightweight, efficient, and packed with everything needed for a home visit.
Your standard kit includes:
- Digital fundus camera
- Mobile slit lamp
- I-care tonometer
- Portable retinoscope, ophthalmoscope and Heine BIO
- EYEris tablet record system
- Portable printer
"When we're in the routine we bring out this equipment - they are just amazed by it and I think that's the key thing. It's how appreciative the patients are that we can offer them this level of technology in their home."
- Jhanara Islam, Optometrist

The newly-designed bag weighs just 6.4kg (down from over 10kg), making it easier and safer to carry - and designed to streamline patient visits while protecting delicate equipment.
"By prioritising the end user - our optometrists - we ensured that the new case was functional and seamlessly integrated with the rest of the equipment."
- Dan Young.

The EYEris tablet - designed by optometrists, for optometrists
Central to every home visit is the EYEris tablet system, a bespoke digital platform built by our own clinical and IT leaders.

With everything accessible on one screen, EYEris helps you work smoothly and efficiently - capturing details, patient-specific records without breaking the flow of the visit.
Key features include:
- One-page intuitive design
- Customisable buttons to suit your testing style
- Secure encryptions and fast uploads to support office
- Seamless connection to digital retinal imaging
"It lets me focus fully on the patient, knowing I can complete everything smoothly and thoroughly without breaking the flow."
- Matt Burford, Optometrist & Professional Services Manager.

The support team at the end of a call
Even when you're working solo, you're never on your own.
Our professional services and scheduling teams are here to make sure you can focus fully on clinical care, with:
- On-call peer support from experienced optometrists
- A scheduling team that plans and adjusts your day
- A clinical referrals team handing over 2,000 cases a month
- Ongoing support to stay aligned with NHS, GOC, and regulatory requirements

"The pro services optometrists are quite happy to have a chat with you about something you might be finding tricky. Usually you know the answer - you just need that 'Optom next door', friendly face to reassure you."
- Kiranjeet Matharu, Optometrist

What's the one bit of kit or support you couldn't live without?
We asked some of our optometrists: what's the one tool, piece of equipment, or type of support that makes the biggest difference in your day?
Here's what they told us:
"The fundus camera has been the greatest armoury of equipment - it always brings the 'WOW' factor".
- Jhanara Islam, Optometrist
"My portable printer because... whilst there's so many pieces of kit that you really do have to have, the printer isn't contractual obligation for GOS. It's the most reliable printer I've ever used, allows for my Welsh GOS forms, prescription reports, referrals copies etc to not take an age to write."
- Anonymous, Optometrist
"My must-have piece of kit is my handheld fundus camera because it has become indispensable in practice and vastly improves our ability to monitor patients' eye health."
-Ciara Ni Chleirigh, Optometrist
"The Professional Services team need to be commended on what a fantastic job they do - always prompt in answering, efficient and knowledgeable."
- Jhanara Islam, Optometrist
"I have always been aware that the support from head office is invaluable; it is always there if needed."
- Rob Ward, Optometrist
